Brazil will sign agreement with France to build nuclear plants

Brazil and France next week sign an agreement on scientific and technological cooperation in the area of defense, civil and nuclear energy. In the area of energy, the agreement provides for the construction of six to eight nuclear plants in ten years, under National Energy Plan 2030, prepared by EPE, body running the Ministry of Mines and Energy.
The Presidents Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and French Nicolas Sarkozy will meet for a summit between the EU and Brazil, which take place in Rio de Janeiro on 22 and Dec. 23. On the schedule of cooperation between the two countries, is the acquisition of four conventional submarines and a nuclear propulsion. In the civil area, is expected agreements for development of satellites for action in the Amazon, especially to detect actions of deforestation and air traffic control.
The nuclear industry is considered the most strategic in the program. The plan provides for full nationalization of the fuel cycle and construction of the reactors. On the agenda of cooperation the two countries are involving the construction business in Brazil, from six to eight nuclear plants, Angra 3 included, with transfer of technology. Also on the schedule of the summit, there will be a concert to celebrate the launch of the Year of France in Brazil, with the presence of President Lula.
